In terms of the name, there is a little bit of confusion where it comes from. There are a couple thoughts on the origin of the name “Florida” and one of them is that it was named after all of the beautiful flowers that are in Florida. Florida means “flowery” so that would seem to make sense. Another school of thought is that it was named after the day it was discovered which was Easter. In Spanish, Easter is called “Pascua florida.” Florida has earned multiple nicknames including the “Orange State”, “Sunshine State”, “Everglades State” and the “Alligator State”.
