Jamie King – Seattle, Washington
Located in the western state of Washington in the United States of America, Seattle is situated on the coast and is known as a seaport city. Because of this, Seattle is one of the largest ports in North America which indicates how much exporting and importing the city is involved in. It was around 1853 that the settlement became officially known as Seattle, named after Chief Sealth the chief of the indigenous tribes of the area, the Duwamish and the Squamish. Three years later, in 1856, the area was established as a city and began to grow with the rest of the booming state. Monumental changes have swept the city over its long history, including an influx of workers and capitalists first because of the thriving timber industry, the gold rush of the late 1890s, and then a boom in shipbuilding, sailing, and exporting in the post-war 1920s. Seattle is a cultural hub of arts and entertainment, famously built to host the 1962 World’s Fair in the expansive Seattle Center. The Seattle Center is an incredible 74-acre campus that contains the renowned Space Needle which towers to a height of 184 meters. Aside from the tower, there is a large modernist sculpture that functions as a water fountain that was intended originally as an attraction for the world fair but has gained fame each year since. There are also dozens of theaters, museums, halls, and arenas, including McCaw Hall, home of the Seattle Opera and ballet troupe. In addition to the attractions, a handful of schools operate there that are dedicated to art, music, and drama and offer classes to the public. Annually, a number of festivals are held in the Seattle Center that work to include all types of people, cultures, and beliefs. The city is also well-known because of its Symphony Orchestra, one of the most often recorded symphony’s in the entire world. The orchestra was formed in 1903 and became renowned as one of the best performing orchestras in the decades following. They still regularly perform in Seattle, at the Benaroya Hall in the downtown area. Seattle rests in the “Pacific Ring of Fire” or circum-Pacific belt, a geographical area that is susceptible to frequent, large-scale earthquakes. The destruction caused by the earthquakes is generally only structurally damaging to buildings and architecture and rarely causing many fatalities. The climate of the city, due to its proximity to the ocean, is temperate and does not often include extremely hot or cold periods, with little snow in the winter. It’s frequent overcast conditions have lead the city to be unofficially nicknamed as “Rain City”. Historically, Seattle has been known for the technological advances that have been founded within the city. This includes computer companies like Microsoft and the internet marketplace Amazon as well as the aircraft manufacturing giant Boeing. These advancements have helped to label Seattle as a leader in intelligent thinking and a center for the furthering of both the arts and scientific progress. Seattle, Washington has a rich tattoo history. Featuring shops such as Damask Tattoo, Pierced Hearts Tattoo Parlor, Laughing Buddha Tattoo, Lucky Devil Tattoo Parlor, and Slave to the Needle, Seattle is a great destination if you’re looking for some new ink. With a population of 620,778, there are lots of potential customers for the parlors in town. Yelp currently lists 90 different shops when searching for “tattoo” in Seattle. Google Places lists 531 different tattoo shops in Washington, which shows how competitive the state truly is. Supergenius Tattoo currently boasts one of the largest selection of artists in the area, listing the following artists on their site: Damon Conklin, Chris Greenewald, Cory Jordan, Emily Hanzal, Rich Dillard, Matt Wear, Ceka Kitami, Jason Vogt, Nate Leslie, Robbie Ludors, Jon Hughlett, Darling Tom. When doing research for your artist, we suggest not paying too much attention to price because quality is much more important when you’re going to be living with the artwork for the rest of your life.
