Walking Dead Tattoo

The Walking Dead is one of the most popular shows on television and you would probably guess this by all The Walking Dead tattoos you see out there. Currently having made through eight seasons, this show has been adapted from the comic books to the television where it ranks as AMC’s number one show of all time. As we sit, the show has been nominated for 127 awards and has won 69 times.

This gives you somewhat of an idea of the popularity of this show. People might wonder why this show is so popular. It’s arguably the most violent and disturbing TV drama out there and people love it. Television happens to be heading in this direction with more and more outlandish and violent shows being created. The Walking Dead was a pioneer and since 2010, this show has captured the attention of millions.

That being said, you might see all versions of Walking Dead tattoos out there. From the main characters, zombies and weapons, nothing is off limits to be tattooed on the fan of this hit series. In this article we’ll talk about some of the most popular images being captured in ink and talk about the show so you have an understanding of the show.

Plot of the Show

To understand the popularity of the show, one should know about the plot. Season one starts with Rick Grimes awaking from some sort of coma and realizing the world has been taken over by zombies. The Sheriff’s deputy ends up traveling to Atlanta to look for his son and wife, as well as his partner on the force, Shane Walsh. This is where Rick runs into other survivors. At this point, the group goes to the Centers for Disease Control only to find out the lone survivor from the CDC says there is no cure for the zombies.

All along the way they are running into, and through, zombies and undead. The cool thing about this show is that it’s action packed with blood and gore. We think one reason this show hits a chord with it’s audience is because, as humans, we imagine a world full of zombies. We also imagine disease or viruses being spread. These are concerns that haunt us deep in our soul and to watch Rick Grimes and company navigate through this world makes us happy it’s him and not us.

Tattoo Themes

Many of the themes you will see when talking about The Walking Dead revolve around the characters. Below we will go over some of the most noteworthy characters of the show and try to explain why these characters are being tattooed onto the bodies of fans.

Bicycle Girl

Now, I couldn’t go through this whole post without mentioning one of the most famous zombies in the series. Bicycle Girl shows up in the very first episode of the series and therefore, makes her one of the most memorable zombies to date.

The reason Bicycle Girl was so important was because it was basically the first image released for the show. The creators of The Walking Dead really set the tone with this image. It got people talking and the rest was history.

Maggie Greene

Maggie Greene is a popular choice for a tattoo for The Walking Dead fans. Maggie is the lone survivor of her family. She started out a sweet girl from the country and transformed into a battle tested warrior. The refreshing thing with Maggie is that she is an optimist and still plans to build a family.

Carol Peletier

Carol is probably one of the most fun characters on the show. She has really thrived in this dark place. After she lost her whole family, there seemed to be a transformation in Carol and she turned into a bad-ass with survival skills that saved her friends multiple times. Carol is a fan favorite and you are likely to see some Walking Dead tattoos featuring her.

Rick Grimes

Oh, Rick Grimes, the man that started this whole thing off. Little did he know that when he woke up from a coma that this world would be something he couldn’t have imagined in his wildest dreams. This show is essentially Rick’s story and it’s no surprise that he is one the favorites. The group would not have made it as far as they have without him. He often takes too much responsibility onto himself but his skills as a communicator and leader are what makes him one of the best characters on the show. A good Rick Grimes tattoo will let everyone know of the show you are a fan of.

Michonne

If you happen to be a fan of the kitana, then you will love Michonne. She is one of the coolest characters in the show in my opinion. When you first meet Michonne, she is walking quietly with two zombies attached to a chain. Her hood is up, and she is holding a sword. What a great entrance. We end up finding out that her quietness is not a sign of weakness. She is loyal and tough and making her a popular choice for a Walking Dead tattoo.

Daryl Dixon

With no further ado, the most popular character on the show… Daryl. A once selfish loner, Daryl is now probably the most important character on the show. He is brave, loyal and honest which makes him one of the most popular choice to be tattooed. Many times we’ll see Daryl tattooed on the canvas as a portrait.

Lucille

I think it should be mentioned that Lucille is a popular tattoo choice as well. Lucille is a baseball bat made of wood with barbed wire wrapped around it. Negan named the bat after his late wife. It almost seems as if the bat has taken on the soul of his wife because he treats the bat as a human and talks to it. It is an intimidating sight and Negan loves that. There are many tattoos out there of Lucille.

We hope you learned a little bit about The Walking Dead and the tattoos that are created in reverence of the show. If you have any questions, reach out and let us know.
